Research Proposal
Answering the following questions below will help you narrow down and define your variables.
You should use this sheet to help you in your presentation.
It will help with multiple sections including:
The Title: The title of your experiment and your name.
The Background:
“I notice that…” What was the source of inspiration for your experiment idea? What was the informal observation or practical problem or previous research article that your idea was inspired by?
Question: What is the research question? What question will your experiment address?
The Hypothesis:
“I think that…” What do you think the results will be?
The Experiment Design:
Note that you will choose two independent variables for your experiment, and at least one of the IVs must be manipulated (i.e. you as the researcher must actively create the two conditions for the manipulated IV, rather than simply observe and compare between two conditions that already exist).
What is your first independent variable? Fill in the information below:
– Name of IV #1: _____________________________________
– IV 1 Levels: ____________________ vs. ____________________
– Describe how you will manipulate it?
Describe HOW IV 1 will be tested within-subjects.
Describe HOW IV 1 will be tested between-subjects.
What is your second independent variable? Fill in the information below:
– Name of IV #2: _____________________________________
– IV2 Levels: ____________________ vs. ____________________
– Is this a manipulated variable or a non-manipulated variable?
– If it is manipulated, describe how you will manipulate it? If it is not manipulated, describe why it cannot be manipulated.
– Is IV2 within-subjects or between-subjects?
– Describe HOW it will be tested within-subjects or between-subjects.
Four conditions
Note if your experiment has two IVs, each with two levels, then there will be four conditions. List the four conditions your experiment will have on this slide.
Create a factorial design table using your two variables and their levels. Combine the levels and show the conditions.
List the Four Conditions that will be tested.

Method
Participants: Who will your participant(s) be?
Materials: What materials will you need to conduct the study?
Note: Be sure your research study is easy and do-able.
Procedure: Walk us step-by-step through how the experiment will be conducted.
