Next, find the organization’s website and read their “About” page including pages linked to their “About” page, mission statement if available (often presented on a page titled “Our Mission” or something similar), and corporate values if available. Browse the Wikipedia page on the organization and find information relevant to CSR such as their annual earnings, charitable giving, social or environmental projects, and so on. You are also encouraged to perform an internet search to read about what others are saying about this organization’s efforts related to corporate social responsibility.
Finally, write 200-300 words addressing the following prompt: Which model of CSR covered in Dr. Stansell’s lecture on CSR does the business most seem to exemplify? Explain. In explaining, you must describe features of the organization and related them to elements of the theory of CSR as described in Dr. Stansell’s lecture.
Note: I have found students will often have a hard time telling whether a company is applying the Economic Model or the Strategic Model when the company engages in charitable giving, has environmental goals, or supports social development. Most large corporations make charitable donations or “give back” in other ways, however their giving usually represents a small fraction of their total profit. But, even the amount of giving isn’t really the key here. The difference between the Economic Model and the Strategic Model is a difference in the fundamental structure and goals of the organization. Keep that in mind as you assess the organization you have been assigned. Good questions to ask: is this organization structured to generate profit though they do some charitable giving as well, or is this organization structured according to social or environmental goals that are just as important as, and go hand-in-hand with, it’s goal of profit?
